FAQs
Our catering bodies are designed to be mounted on a commercial CAB-CHASSIS. A cab-chassis comes with a cab configuration and upgrades of your choice and will have frames that are straight and flat from the cab back, which makes them easy for upfitters to build their products on. Frame rails on a cab-chassis are 34” wide and are offered in single and dual rear wheels. Typical manufacturers and models for a cab-chassis are the Chevy 3500, Ford F350, and Ram 3500. Chassis requirements are as follows:

Model | Cab To Axle | Requirements |
---|---|---|
122-81
(10FT Box)
| 60”
|
|
146-81
(12FT Box)
| 84”
|
While the following are not required, we do recommend the following:
- Dual Rear Wheels (Higher GVWR than single wheel)
- 2WD (Typically sit lower then 4WD)
- Upgraded alternator or Dual Battery/Dual Alternator if adding Refrigeration
- Running Boards for the Cab
- Backup Camera

A commercial cab and chassis can be purchased from most dealerships in the US that have a commercial sales department. We work with dealerships in our area that we can put you in contact with upon ordering your Catering Body, or you can order from a dealership local to you.
Absolutely! Plano Manufacturing offers Catering Body mounting for an additional fee. If you don’t want to have Plano mount your Catering Body, most third-party upfitters can mount the bodies for you. Plano recommends discussing this with the dealership you are purchasing through.
All heated features of our catering bodies are heated using propane [LPG]. Each of our bodies come with a 12.2-gallon propane tank mounted under the service side of the body. We also offer a BBQ propane set up that uses two standard BBQ propane tanks in an enclosed compartment under the storage side of the body.

COFFEE URN
Our trucks come standard with a coffee urn designed to hold 30 gallons of hot water and 10 gallons of hot coffee that can be brewed directly in the urn.
Upgrades:
- 15-gallon coffee urn
- Warming shelf above urn

WARMING OVEN
If you do not sell hot water or coffee, we can exchange the coffee urn with an additional warming oven instead. This second oven will keep hot food to temperature and makes it easy to replenish your serving oven without making any extra stops.

COFFEE URN AND WARMING OVEN COMBO
Want to serve coffee AND have extra hot food on hand for easy replenishing? Then get the best of both worlds with our coffee urn and warming oven combination.
Upgrades:
- 15-gallon coffee urn

Full Size Storage Compartment
The driver’s side of the vehicle is home to our storage compartment. This compartment is used to hold extra stock of dry goods, beverages, condiments, and more so that you can replenish on the go! Our full-size storage compartment offers the most space for over stock, complete with an ice bin and two shelves.

BBQ Propane Compartment
Instead of the standard undermount propane on the service side, we offer a BBQ propane compartment on the storage side that holds two standard 20 lb BBQ propane bottles. These come installed in a vented compartment and with an automatic changeover regulator that will switch to the second bottle when the first bottle is empty.

Hand/Utensil Wash Sinks
Depending on your local Department of Health Codes, a hand wash & utensil wash sinks may be required. We can add wash sinks in the service compartment to help you meet code in your area.

OPEN ICE BIN
The passenger side of the vehicle is home to the Service Compartment. This compartment is used to serve cold beverages and food, dry goods (chips, cookies, cakes, etc.), and condiments. The base of this compartment is an ice bin with dividers, four serving shelves, and three condiment boxes.

ROLL-UP GLASS DOORS
The most popular upgrade added to our Service Compartment is Roll-Up Glass Doors over the ice bin. These doors slide on a track, covering the ice bin and bottom shelf. This upgrade allows customers to still see the product in the bin while keeping the area colder for longer.

REFRIGERATION AND ROLL UP GLASS DOORS
For warmer climates or long jobs where ice alone just doesn’t cut it, we offer Refrigeration Units paired with Roll-Up Glass Doors. These refrigeration units are powered by an electric A/C compressor in the storage compartment and power on/off with the vehicle.

Bluetooth Radio & Speakers
We offer a Bluetooth radio & speakers in the service compartment that powers on and off with the light switch in the compartment. This allows you to play music for your customers while not interfering with what the driver wants to be listening to in the cab.

Recessed Napkin Holder & Straw/Bag Holder
In the front service wall, we can install a recessed napkin holder & holder for your straws, bags, or anything else you may be interested in storing for your customers.

Deluxe Locking Key Handle
These door handles have a lock and key built in and all handles will share the same key.

Padlock Door Handle
These door handles have an option for you to put a padlock on to keep them locked.

Undermount Propane Tank
A 12.2 Gallon Undermount propane tank is standard with our trucks. It is located on the front of the passenger side and can be easily refilled at any propane filling station.
